Companies House updates to watch

20 June 2026 · 4 min read

Reforms are changing how companies file and verify identity at Companies House. Here is what to prepare for.

Companies House is going through its biggest reform in a generation under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, aimed at improving the reliability of the register.

Identity verification

New rules introduce identity verification for directors, people with significant control and those filing on a company's behalf. Practices acting as agents will need to factor verification into their onboarding and filing processes.

Filing changes

Changes are also coming to how accounts are filed, including a move toward software-only filing and tighter requirements for small and micro-entity accounts. Keep an eye on Companies House guidance and plan client communications early so nobody is caught out.
